Lost-wax casting is a metalworking technique used to create precise sculptures and other metal objects. It's one of the oldest known metal-forming processes, dating back thousands of years, with early examples found in cultures across Mesopotamia, Egypt and China.

Why is it superior?

Here's the basic process:
1. Model Created – A model of the desired object is sculpted in wax by hand or from a rubber mold.
2. Encasement  – The wax model is encased in a heat-resistant material – traditionally a plaster-like mixture. This hardens around the wax, capturing every detail.
3. Wax melted – The encased mold is heated in a kiln. The wax melts and drains out (or vaporizes), leaving a hollow cavity in the exact shape of the original model. This is the "lost wax" step – the original model is destroyed in the process.
4. Bronze poured – Molten metal (bronze, gold, silver, etc.) is poured into the cavity, filling the space the wax occupied.
5. Break out – Once the bronze solidifies after cooling, the plaster mold is broken away, revealing the metal casting.

6. Finish – The model is hand finished - filed, sanded, polished, and refined into its final form.
